Property is located in Catford, South London. The property is a Victorian terraced house. Built of brick construction with solid walls.
The brief was to create external opening to rear flank wall of house to facilitate bi-fold doors. Door units were high specification, thermally broken alumium units with a Uvalue of 1.2 wmK.

Methodology
structural calculations are prepared based on a site visit from our surveyor. Based on these working items we procure the correct steel supports and prepare the opening.
Removal of existing load bearing wall and temporary structural supports erected. Installation of 2No 178x102x30 UB bolted at centres with M10 bolts as per engineering specifications.
This choice of support required external battens to be fitted with boarding and mesh to hold a mortar render to match the existing external wall finish.
Temporary hoarding is installed over night to secure the property during the work period.
Structural props remain in place to support the beam once installed to allow the curing process of the pad stones to settle with minimum shrinkage and movement across the span of the beam.
Internally the steal beams are covered with Gyproc fire line board to meet Uk Building regaulations for fire proofing means of escape in residential properties.
Installation of the thermally broken aluminium bi fold doors is then completed. These doors are the High Performance option for maximum performance in terms of air, wind, water resistance and thermal performance.
The style of these bi fold doors allows the door locking principle which facilitate to use the first leaf as an entrance door without affecting the folding capacity of the system.
The remaining phase is to carry out all external making good with galvanised beading and cement mortar.
Result
Successful installation of premium aluminium bi fold doors with thermally broken frames. Further works to include kitchen installation, under floor heating installation and ground floor toilet to the kitchen area. Providing a warm, light, functional family space.
