Project summary
The project scope was to carry out a washroom cubicles installation south London, Wellingtons Day Nursery. The client had recently taken over an existing nursery business and the WCs required updating.
The current capacity of the WC contained three children’s toilets and one adult toilet.
We proposed to relocate the adult toilet to another area of the nursery and increase the children’s toilet capacity with an additional WC unit. This increased the nursery capacity for children by ten small persons, thus increasing their overall capacity for numbers.
Our schedule of works to carry out the washroom cubicles installation south london:
- remove existing washroom cubicles
- remove existing quarry tile floor
- install new self levelled latex compound and anti slip safety vinyl flooring
- install new toilet drainage layout for the modified washroom cubicle layout.
- modify the plumbing to prevent back flow siphonage, paying attention to water regulations in WCs
- install new durable washroom cubicles
- install new wash hand trough and vanity units
Methodology
Remove existing washroom cubicles
* units were removed and disposed of
* water services were capped off and made safe, and sewage connections were capped.
Remove existing quarry tiles and concrete screed
* the existing floor tiles were lifted
* we prepare the subfloor surface
* spoil removed from site.
Install new self levelled latex and anti slip safety vinyl flooring
* latex self levelling compound installed to the sub floor
* anti slip vinyl laid to floor and chemically fixed to sub floor.
Install new toilet drainage
* the layout required an additional cubicle to the WC space to increase the children capacity of the nursery. This required the existing drainage to be modified. All sewage pipes were modified to accommodate the new spacing of the washroom cubicles layout
Modify the plumbing to prevent back flow siphonage
* We carry out a risk assessment of the fluid category risk was carried out to address the water regulations issues regarding back flow siphonage.
* the washroom was rated with a fluid 5 category risk, which is the highest risk of fluid contamination.
* installation of the modified plumbing supplies for the WC cisterns and sink trough was carried out in accordance with the technical specifications required to prevent back flow contamination between the sewage services and the local water supply.
* toilet cisterns were fitted with a Type AD – Air gap with injector installed to connected water supply with an additional AFL air gap isolator valve.
* installation of a thermostatic hot water valve is installed to supply hot water to the sink trough. This device presents hot was scolding to the children as the water temperature can be regulated to the individual room requirement.
Install new hard wearing washroom cubicles
* installation of washroom cubicles was carried out in accordance to the design approved by the Nursery management.
4 washroom cubicles were installed with one unit installed with a slightly taller WC toilet pan to accommodate larger children.
* the cubicles were constructed from Compact Grade Laminate composite material. This structure type provides durable and water proof washroom cubicles as compared with the cheaper melamine faced chipboard carcasses.
Install large sink trough
* A 3 person sink trough was installed with non-concussive taps supplied from a thermostatic mixing valve. The sink trough was constructed of stainless steel with two sensor operated soap dispensers.
Result
Successful refurbishment of washroom cubicles with the addition of a WC unit to increase children capacity at the Nursery. All Water Regulations observed and legal compliance of Building Regulations for washroom usage observed.
